22. The Site @ Marina

The Site @ Marina

View from Pedestrian Walk

Objective:

This page is dedicated to the written and graphic representation of a Public Space. The objective is to document both social and physical aspects towards an integrated understanding. This site also welcomes participation as both a quick vote and more in-depth input from neighborhood stakeholders in order to describe the lived experience of the space. Together, we can build a strong body of knowledge of our built environment in order to stimulate informed proposals for the maintenance, improvement or interventions in Public Space.

Quick Description

The space for this site opened up once the rails formerly serving North Station were removed. The site is currently underused and serves as a municipal storage area. The metro (red line) runs along the south-east border of the site; since the rail is not completely submerged, a retaining wall separates the site from the pedestrian walkaway several meters above. On the other side of the pedestrian walkway / metro line is North Station Park.

See Raons Publiques’ winning proposal for the redesign of the space. This was one of the main catalysts that prompted the deeper exploration of Public Spaces and Participation in Fort Pienc.
